This Friday we went to the opening of the new Tembo Trail at the zoo. Tembo means elephant in Swahili (I think it is Swahili) and it is a new exhibit for the elephants, hippos, rhinos, lions, otters, and meerkats. We were there for the grand opening, which included a few speakers, some African dancing and music and of course the animals! It was a bit crazy, especially as we were literally swept into the exhibit by the crowd. But once the crowd dispersed and spread out, it was all good. The new trail is awesome! Way better than I expected. And the new elephant house is awesome! It made me kind of feel bad thinking about the old elephant house and that it was a little sub-par. Now they are in the lap of luxury.

Poor Nick - he wasn't feeling good. He had a sore throat and just hung out in the stroller.
Baby Lucas and his mom, Renee, playing with the paper banner. It was quite entertaining watching them take down the sign and then play with it.
The wall of the elephant enclosure has little spy holes to see the hippos
This is the best pictures I could get of the three of them. Andrew and Cameryn were game, but Ben was having none of the picture taking.
The indoor elephant house - it's totally awesome!
Checking out the mole rats or something like that
Look! You can actually see the lion, AND he's awake!!
