We finally got Nick to say please! But he'll only do it for mini marshmallows. But, it's a step in the right direction!

A Dancin' Fool
Nick really likes to dance. He dances in church, in the car, to the tv. And he's a young DMB fan.
Stop!
Nick gets a little ticked off at Ben sometimes, especially in the car. This is Nick telling Ben to stop! and no!
Painted Airplane
Grandma Lee got Ben this airplane a while ago, but he just found it the other day and wanted to paint it. We set up the paint on the counter and away he went! Ben painted it all by himself with very minimal mess or instructions. When he finished painting all the parts and the were dry, we assembled the plane and he took it outside to fly. It flies pretty good.
A Little Fun After Some Ice Cream
Last week Adam had a craving for a banana split sundae, so off to Mr Freeze we went. Of course, this is the first (and probably only) time this year we have gone to Mr Freeze, and it was chilly enough for the boys to wear sweatshirts! After they ate their ice cream, we let them play. Nick sat at the table with me for a bit while Ben rolled down the hill with some bigger kids. He was pretty proud of himself for rolling down the hill.
Queen of the Backyard
From her perch, she can see all the squirrels in the yard! (Adam put her up there - she cannot climb the ladder, though if there were a squirrel up there, she probably would figure it out)
Swinging Like a Big Boy
Nick has graduated to the big boy swings. Down came the dolphin swing and up went the second big kid swing. If no one is around to put him on the swing, he'll just swing on his tummy.

Master of the Universe
Ben has only watched He-Man a few times, but I thought it was a fitting title. His facial expression cracks me up! So serious!

Coloring Inside the Lines
Ben has made huge improvements with his coloring in the last few weeks. In the past, he would color here and there, but the last few weeks he has decidedly sat down and colored for long stretches of time. We have seen a tremendous improvement in his skill, too. He is doing really well coloring inside the lines, can draw very small circles with a pencil and make long wavy lines with a consistent wavy pattern. We haven't really been working with him on it, just letting him do his own thing and helping when he asks for it. We tried tracing letters a few times, but that hasn't really worked yet. But I don't really care. I'm pretty happy with coloring inside the lines. Now he just needs to learn his Roy G Biv.
Snaggle-tooth
There are one or two more vacation posts coming, but I need my new photoshop before I can finish them because I refuse to photoshop on my old computer anymore. Hopefully it will be here in the next few days. In the mean time, I will show you a picture of my snaggle-toothed baby. He has barely had teeth for a year and has already busted up two of them. Good thing he has that bonus tooth, because at this rate he's going to need it! I believe the newest chip happened in the Smoky Mountains. I remember looking at him and thinking he had something caught between his teeth but didn't investigate too much. I finally remember to look, and I found he had a huge chunk missing from his top front tooth, as evidenced in this picture. (remember, no photoshop, so the color in this picture is not good)

Smoky Mtns '12: A History
So, I am the keeper of the majority of old Balyeat pictures, going back to the 1930s. My family has been going to the Smoky Mountains almost as long as it has been a national park, I think. I found pictures from Norris Dam that had to have been taken either before Fontana Dam was completed, or not long after it was completed. I also found pictures from Newfound Gap, Alum Cave Bluff, some of the old (but not so old back then) homesteads and farms, Fontana and Cades Cove. Below are some pictures from Abram's Fall through the years.
The Falls circa 1940s or 1950s - the picture was not dated, but based on other pictures of the same print quality, I guess 1940s/1950s
The Falls circa 1976 / 1978ish
Sarah and I at the falls, 1992
The hike, 1996 (definitely much more leisurely and relaxing than this last one)
