10 Days Short of 1 Year Anniversary

Oh Nicholas...So, this was the day that I got that infamous phone call from day care - 'We had a bit of an accident, and it looks like Nick is going to need some stitches'. Yup, as soon as I heard the admin's voice on the phone, I just started to pack up my stuff and head for the door, before she could even tell me what had happened. Nick was playing on the playground and apparently grew about 1/4" overnight because what he thought he could run under yesterday, didn't quite make the cut today. And he took a big chuck out of the top of his head. I like the incident report from school - Blow to Head. Because partial scalping wasn't an option. Thank goodness the administrator has two boys herself and knows how this works. She was very calm with me, but I get the feeling Nick's teachers weren't so calm when it happened. I would like to state, he was all cleaned up and blood free by the time I got there, which I really appreciated! His teachers had the hard job of cleaning up all that blood!
So I picked him up, assessed the damage, agreed, some sutures would be required and took him over to the ER. The daycare admin had put a bandaid in his hair to kind of keep dust out of it, but I think it was really just to make Nick feel better. I walk into the ER, look at the girl at the front desk and said, 'So we are going to be needing some stitches' She just kind of looked at me and gave a little chuckle. She asked if we had been there before and I said yes, almost exactly a year ago. She confirmed, it had in fact be 10 days short of one year. Way to be consistent, Nick.

So, we got back to a room right away, saw the nurse, blah blah blah. Nick was totally unphased. He just wanted to watch TV. I had to threaten to turn it off if he didn't respond to the nurse's questions (they were still evaluating him for a concussion since he hit his head so hard). The doctor came in, said 3 staples, numbed him up and applied the metal. Wham, bam, thank you mam, out of there in 45 minutes. And NOT ONCE did Nick ever cry, flinch or complain. Totally, no big deal.

Beware - Blood and guts below!!
